Glossary
Plain-language definitions of the terms you meet across Lune, from broker and connection to leader, follower, and drawdown.
New to futures automation? Start here. These are plain-language definitions of the terms you meet across Lune. Each one is short on purpose.
Broker, platform, and datafeed#
These three sound alike but do different jobs.
BrokerWho holds your accountOptionalThe firm that holds your trading account and sends your orders to the exchange. Your prop firm or brokerage is your broker.
PlatformHow Lune reaches your brokerOptionalThe technical system Lune links to for your account, such as Tradovate, NinjaTrader, Rithmic, or ProjectX. Many brokers run on one of these platforms.
DatafeedWhere prices come fromOptionalThe live price data for an instrument. Lune uses real-time prices to track your positions and unrealized P&L.
Prop firm#
A firm that funds traders. You pass an evaluation, and the firm gives you a funded account to trade with rules and a profit split. Many prop firms run on the same platforms Lune supports, so you connect the platform your firm uses.
Connection#
A link between a broker platform and Lune. One connection can hold several trading accounts. See How connections work.
Account#
A single trading account inside a connection. You choose which accounts to activate, and Lune trades only the ones you turn on.
Automation#
A rule that turns an incoming signal into orders on the accounts you pick. Each automation gives you a private webhook URL to paste into TradingView. This is the Auto Trader.
Webhook#
A private URL that receives a signal. When a TradingView alert fires, it calls your automation's webhook, and Lune places the orders.
Your webhook URL is a secret. Anyone who has it can send signals to your accounts. Never share it or post it in public.
Leader and follower#
In the Trade Copier, the leader is the account you copy from. A follower is an account that mirrors the leader's trades. One leader can drive many followers.
Multiplier#
A per-follower size setting in the Trade Copier. A multiplier of 1x copies the leader's size, 0.5x trades half, and 2x trades double. It controls quantity, separate from any symbol mapping.
Drawdown#
How far your account balance has fallen from its peak. Lune can auto-halt trading when drawdown crosses a limit you set. See Risk Management.
Session hours#
A trading window you set per account. Orders outside the window are rejected, so automation only runs during the hours you choose.
